Hello! My name is Michelle Torno, I am the owner and lead planner for Red Heels Events. I am quirky, crazy and if I don't know you yet a little shy (yes, really). I love Audrey Hepburn, Mexican food and U of M football. I was born and raised in West Michigan and cannot imagine living anywhere else. I love having four amazing and beautiful seasons (especially Fall), even with the crazy Michigan weather! My husband and I met in high school and dated for 7 years before getting married in September of 2003. I cannot believe we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year!
I have been planning and coordinating events in West Michigan for over 10 years. I really fell in love with weddings when a good friend asked me and the hubby to be Master and Mistress of Ceremonies for their wedding in 2005. After a few different guests came up to me and asked if I was the wedding planner, I thought "well, maybe I am good at this and should actually become one!". So I did! I took courses through the Association of Bridal Consultants and George Washington University to educate myself a little more on the finer points of being in event planning.
In January of 2006, I officially filed the paperwork for Memorable Events and began putting weddings on the calendar. Over the next four years, I planned and coordinated some fabulous and fun events and worked with the most amazing clients! In March of 2010, I was approached by the owner of September's Bride in Holland and asked if I would ever be interested in working for someone else. Having a one year old son at home and being due with my daughter soon, not having to run my own company sounded pretty good! And knowing what I did of September's Bride I was excited and honored to accept this new opportunity! From May 2010 until September 2011, I acted as lead planner for Events by September's Bride, what a fabulous group of ladies I was able to work with! (If you are looking for a fantastic place to purchase your bridal gown you definitely should check them out.) Unfortunately, I now had two babies at home and realized working away from them was becoming too difficult so I resigned from that position and stepped away from the wedding world for a few months.
But.....I could not stay away, I love what I do! I decided to re-launch my business under the new name of Red Heels Events. It took me a while to decide on the new name, I tossed a lot of different ideas around but landed on this one. I love shoes, it's an obsession and red ones are my favorite! Actually, red in general is just my favorite. My couch is red, my front door is red and when we build our new house this fall, guess what? It is going to be red!! :) And I LOVE the name, it has become so fun! When I go to meetings, I wear my red heels and no one ever has trouble finding me! My family and friends have gotten into to it too, finding cute necklaces, jewelry boxes, scarves, signs, pillow cases and even tape dispensers that have red heels on them! It is pretty crazy really!
Red Heels Events is run from my home so that I can spend every day with my two great kids. I love helping brides and grooms (and mothers) plan and coordinate their weddings. My favorite part of my job is seeing all of the hard work come together on the day of the wedding and how excited the couples are to see all their ideas in reality. It is a lot of hard work, and can be stressful at times, but it is so worth it to help create an amazing day for my clients to remember and start their marriage together!
It was great meeting you!
Michelle
